      Christian Medical College is a large complex and progressive center for medical service, education and research. It is a teaching Institution giving educational training to students of medicine and allied disciplines, and has always tried to observe governing policy laid down by its founder Dr.Ida Scudder, Viz,"to establish, maintain and develop a Christian Medical College in India, where women and men shall receive an education of the highest grade in the art and science of medicine and nursing or in one or other of the related professions to equip them in the spirit of Christ for service in the relief of suffering and the promotion of health." From a small beginning, it has medical courses leading to MBBS degree, there are post graduate diploma courses in 12 different specialties and post graduate degree courses M.D., or Ph.D., in 36 different specialties. In addition to this there are courses in nursing and para-medical services. The Institution is serving more than 1787 in-patient and 4814 out-patient per day. Various department of the Medical College also conduct research into fundamental causes of diseases, their prevention and treatment, and have earned recognition as such. One of the important requirements of the educational programmes is in "in-service"pratical training which is essential for the students in all medical, nursing and para-medical courses. It is towards this end that the Hospital Functioning as an integral part of this educational institution.

      The Institution in order to impart education in the college employs several staff comprising of doctors, nurses, technicians, para-medical and other skilled, technical employees, Engineers, Accountants, Ministerial staff like Stenographers, Clerk-Typist etc. etc.
   
1.3
      In view of the nature of work of the Clerk-Typists in medical Institution where large number of medical terms are in usage, there is a need for a special training programme for such people even before they are employed whether as Clerk-Typists or Stenographers. Moreover, the candidates who are selected for such posts are not exposed to various office procedures therefore the main objective of the training programme is to train these trainees in the usage of medical terminology, office procedures, store-keeping, book-keeping, terminal efficient secretarial staff and best patient care in our institution the training programme has become a necessity and is one of the felt needs of our Institution.
   
1.4 The following will be the course content:

Basic Medical Terminology.
2.
Correct usage of the English language both written and spoken.
3.
Office Methods - Letter wiring, filing etc.
4.
Duties of a Secretary - While arranging departmental meetings , Seminars National and Inernational conference. Writing up of Minutes, preparation of agenda and connected Documents, travel arrangements, sending invitations to delegates, accommodation and other arrangements for participants, etc.,
5.
Correspondance with patient.
6.
Writing up of Discharge Summaries, Operations Notes, etc.,
7.
Reception of Patients/Visitors, and fixing up of appointment.
8.
Maintaining a departmental library.
9.
Staff Service Regulations.
10.
Preparations of Indents.
11.
Telephone manners.
12.
Basic Medical Record forms in use.
13.
Para-medical Services.
14.
Religious activities in C.M.C.
15.
Engineering/M.E.D. Services.
16.
Charges – Bed rates.
17.
Community Health Programmes.
18.
Various activities of C.M.C.
19.
O.P.D. – Supervision – Guidance, etc.,
20.
Registers.

Terminal Operation.

2.1
      Those who wish to take this training should fill up the application form and apply. If the information given in the application is found to be false or incorrect before the training applications will be rejected, if it is found out during the training period they are liable for summary termination without notice or compensation.
   
2.2
    During training period the trainees should learn the work properly and their work and conduct should be good. They are expected to attend the classes and the practical training daily.
   
3.
      Discipline: The trainees are expected to attend the classes regularly and should maintain a high standard of discipline. If they are unauthorisedly absent for more than 6 days, the training will be terminated without notice or compensation. If the trainees programme or if they fail to learn the work properly the training will be terminated without any enquiry, notice or compensation. The decision of the management will be final. The trainees during the training period should not directly or indirectly indulge themselves in any industrial dispute.
   
4.
     Course completion: After the trainees successfully complete the training they will be evaluated and a certificate for having undergone the training will be issued.
   
5.
     For all purpose they are not considered as employees of C.M.C. They do not have any claim for any employment in the Institution after the training period. There is no assurance that the trainees who complete training will be given employment in C.M.C. The management reserves the right to terminate the training without any notice or compensation or without assigning any reason.
